Tryouts can be a challenging time for parents and for players. We have put together a short Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) to help answer some of the more common questions we get around tryout time.

    1. What does it cost to play for Utah Avalanche?

       

    2. Can I try out for more than one team?

      • Yes, you can tryout for as many Avalanche teams as you would like within your eligibility. When you register for Avalanche tryouts you pay a single tryout fee and can attend as many Avalanche tryouts as you would like in as many locations as you would like.

       

    3. Can I train with a team before tryouts?

      • UYSA has established the following policy about tryouts and training with a team prior to tryouts – Player Development Policies Section 6 – 6316-4g
        • A training session participated in by a player outside of their current team, club or OM will not be considered a tryout under the following conditions:
          (1) Current coach is notified in writing unless the training session takes place after the second weekend in May and prior to the commencement of tryouts.
          (2) Player is given a written evaluation of skills and abilities along with recommendations for improvement by the clinician at the end of the training session(s).
          (3) If the training session is conducted by or with a different OM team or club than the player is registered with, the player may not transfer to such OM club or team during the current Seasonal Year.
          (4) The player’s training sessions may not have more than two (2) additional players participating in the session from outside the OM or independent team that is conducting the  training session.
          (5) An OM’s training sessions may not include players from another OM who are on a State Cup or President’s Cup roster from outside this OM in the 48 hours prior to the commencement of and for the duration of State Cup or President’s Cup or any other UYSA administered tournament.
          (6) If an OM has any team participating in any UYSA Competition League, the OM shall follow all UYSA policies for any tryout or training session. This includes but is not limited to: try-out dates, when an offer can be given, and contact with players, parents and families from outside of their OM.

       

    4. Can I talk with a coach before tryouts?

      • UYSA has established the following policy about tryouts and coach contact – Player Development Policies Section 6 – 6316-2b
        • Prior to the second weekend in May, a representative of a Team or Organizational Member may not initiate contact with a player in another Organizational Member with the intent to promote tryouts for the next Seasonal Year. A Team or Organizational Member may offer sign-ups for registration online prior to the “initiate contact” date in May (SECOND Saturday in May), but may not have any communication (verbal or written) with players or parents from another team or OM until the “initiate contact” date.

       

    5. Where are practices held?

      • The team coach will determine where practices are held.
      • Our Elite Teams (ECNL and E64) train in a central location for the team. These teams can have players from all over the state. Practices are typically held at our Rockwell Facility

    7. How often does a team practice?

      • The team coach will determine how often the team will practice.

       

    8. How many games do you play and how often are they played?

      • Games are determined by the league your team plays in and the number of tournaments your coaches selects.

       

    9. Where are the games played?

      • Games are determined by the league your team plays in.
        • Teams in the Competitive Premier and Division UYSA league can play league games from Logan to Spanish Fork and Tooele to Park City.
        • Teams in the North (Logan – Woods Cross), Metro (Salt Lake – Draper), and South (Alpine – Spanish Fork) UYSA League play games inside their “region”.
        • Teams in Elite Clubs National League play games around the country
          • Our Girls ECNL Program participates in the Northwest Conference. Games are played in Utah, Colorado, Idaho, Washington, and Oregon.
          • Our Girls ECNL-RL Program participates in the Mountain Region. Games are played in Utah and Colorado.
          • Our Boys ECNL Program participates in the Mountain Conference. Games are played in Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado.
        • Teams in the National Premier League participate in the Desert Conference. Games are played in Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Nevada.

       

    10. What tournaments does the team attend?

      • Tournaments are selected by the coach and are presented at the parents meeting shortly after tryouts. At that meeting the coach also presents the team budget and other expectations for the team and parents.

       

    11. Can my friend play on the same team as me?

      • Our competitive teams are based off of skill level and players are selected by the coach at tryouts.
      • Our Academy, Juniors, and X-League teams we do our best to place every player that comes to tryouts on a team

       

    12. How do I order a uniform?

      • Once you make a team you will receive an email and instructions on how to order a uniform. Uniforms are ordered every other year (Even years). If you are new to the club you will be required to purchase the Uniform kit and accessories.

       

    13. Where can I find out more information about the the different types of teams and levels of play?

      • UYSA (Utah Youth Soccer Association) is the governing body for youth soccer in Utah. Our competition teams participate in UYSA leagues.
      • Within the UYSA Competitive structure (U13+) there are different divisions of play to match teams of like skill together minimizing major mismatches.
        • U8-U11 play games regionally and are focused on development of players.
      • The top league is Premier and there are 2 divisions within the premier league. You can travel for league games from Logan to Spanish Fork in this league.
        • Premier 1 (P1)
        • Premier 2 (P2)
      • The State Competition League or Region leagues are the Division leagues. There are 3 of these. You can travel for league games from Logan to Manti in this league.
        • Division 1 (D1)
        • Division 2 (D2)
        • Division 3 (D3)
      • The Inter-Regional League are local leagues depending on where you live – North for Davis/Weber/Box Elder/Cache Counties; Metro for Tooele/Park City/Salt Lake County; South for Utah County. You don’t travel outside your area for games.
        • North/Metro/South A
        • North/Metro/South B
      • We have teams that compete at all levels depending on the age group and the area.
